John 3:8, Becoming Like the Wind

When we are moving in the will of God by the power of the Holy Spirit, we act like the wind. The Holy Spirit has His plans and purposes and when we are in His will, we flow along often not knowing where and how we will flow.

The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit.  John 3:8

Our knowledge of good and evil has its own to-do list but its origin is in the lust for more. It is energized by shame then pride and finally, ends in overconfidence and death. These lists are self-directed, self-empowered, and self-glorifying. In this, its flow is very different than that inspired by the Holy Spirit.

Through His Holy Spirit, Christ directs us in wind-like ways:

  • We receive our direction for each circumstance
  • We move forward in obedience often not knowing the end
  • We rely on Christ’s power to perform
  • We observe His will unfold in life giving ways

By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed by going out to a place that he was to receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he was going.  Hebrews 11:8

Like Abraham, we trust that we don’t have to know.  Our Tree of Life knows and this is enough.
